Even if basketball is not your thing, it is difficult to deny that ESPN The Last Dance it is very very entertaining. The focus of the 10 sports documentary about Michael Jordan during the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls season, but the series also delves into MJ’s relationships with his teammates, including his friendship with fellow Bull Scottie Pippen.
Michael was involved in the making of the series, and although he expressed much admiration for his former team-mate, the documentary also covers some of the disagreements that you have had. At one point, Michael called Scottie the decision to undergo surgery on his ankle at the start of the 1997-98 season of “selfish”. However, Michael also acknowledged how well he and Scottie played together. As explained in the documentary, “He has helped me a lot in the way I approached the game, I’ve played the game. Whenever they talk about Michael Jordan, should you speak to Scottie Pippen . . . I didn’t win without Scottie Pippen. That’s why I consider it my best team mate of all time”.
The two have not spent much time together in the last few years (at least, not publicly), but they did briefly reunite in one of Jordan Flight School camp event in July 2017. In February 2020, Scottie even posted a throwback him and MJ on IG in honor of his Michael 57th birthday with the caption, “Happy birthday to my brother!” Even if they are not currently BFFs, there is no denying that the bond between Scottie and MJ is strong, and these sweet photos of teammates over the years prove it.
