Joanna Garcia Swisher stars in the new series of Netflix Sweet Magnolias as Maddie Townsend, a Southern single mother of three, who opens a spa with her two best friends. Its spa is located in a beautiful house in Serenity, SC, a small town they call home. Despite the Serenity is a fictional city and not actual filming, production did still take place in the south.
Though the series, based on the book of the same name, is situated in an idyllic Serenity, is filmed in Georgia. Covington, GA, to be exactaccording to Marie Claire. The city is located on the outskirts of Atlanta and has hosted other filming of a huge variety of other shows and movies, including The Vampire Diaries. The historic city dates back to the late 1800’s and even hosts tours of Mystic Falls so that you can see the filming locations of the popular vampire show.
Called the Hollywood of The South due to its picturesque scenery used in the filming, Covington has a lot to do and see if you make the trip to the South. You have cute bed and breakfasts that look just like Maddie’s spa in Sweet Magnoliaseven if the spa is not very real. The exterior of the spa were shot in real life in the law office in Covington, but the inside shots were in a studio. The city offers other tours, in addition to the Vampire Diaries oneas well, including a ghost tour and a tour of other places of shooting.
If you make the trip to Covington, a place of visit is Mystic Grill. Not only could be family The Vampire Diariesbut also appears in Sweet Magnolias. The restaurant in the Netflix show is going by the name of Sullivan, and is Dana Sue’s (Brooke Elliott) own place. She owns and runs the restaurant, which is one of the most frequented places in the show. All over the world can be found at some time or another, including Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears), the women’s Maddie’s husband Bill (Chris Klein) became pregnant and left for her. Sounds like a dirty story? It is!
The show also filmed at other nearby places, including in and around Atlanta. However, if you want to make a trip to the most Serenity-like the location you can find, you have to head to Covington. You will feel like you’ve stepped right inside Sweet Magnolias and join Maddie and her friends in your next margarita night.
