We are not worthy of the heaven-sent gift that it is Catherine O’hara, and yet here he is, blesses us with some glorious content to brighten our week. On the night of Wednesday, the Schitt’s Creek the star took home the Canadian Screen Award for best lead actress in a comedy series, and subsequently delivered socially distanced acceptance speech scene that could make even the most disgruntled pelican crack a smile. Some may say that it was “simply the best . . . better than all the rest.”
“Wow, thank you, kind Canadian Screen the members of the Academy. I hope that you and your families are well and enjoying the great in the inside,” Moira Rose — er, Catherine — began in a video recorded in his house. Moments later, the orchestral music began to play as if you forced her to finish the speech as the award in person shows more often, and Catherine feigned confusion, saying: “What the fu— hell?” She continued by thanking his Schitt’s Creek colleagues and writers, until, finally, singing their gratitude in a monotonous voice. Iconic even in sum, TBH.

This year marked Catalina fifth time in a row to win the Canadian Screen Award for best actress in a comedy, and the Schitt’s Creek the cast and crew picked up a handful of other recognitions throughout the virtual show. The beloved sitcom won the best comedy series distinction, Eugene Levy: (as Johnny Rose) won the award for best lead actor in a comedy, and Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd) was named best supporting actress in a comedy, just to name a few. We are more than happy to see the sixth and final season, receiving the praise it deserves.
