The drama — which was released on the 15th of June — follows the life of a teenager Nola (Carpenter), whose style of nomadic life takes a turn after a tragedy. “It feels like a light than anyone I seen before and a story that isn’t told often from a young girl,” Carpenter told POPSUGAR. “And it’s a project that I have the best memories of decisions.”

In honor of Carpenter’s latest film, we spoke with the actress as part of our new Q&A series, Last Call. Keep reading for more Carpenter at the time of filming The Short History of a Long Journey, your 21st birthday, what she has been listening, and more.

POPSUGAR: What is the last concert you’ve seen on Netflix?
I think it was New Girl. I’ve been watching a lot lately.

PS: What was your last day on the set of The Short History of a Long Journey like?
It was very special because it was my 19th birthday and filmed in White Sands — this national park, which is literally just white sand, and it looks like you are on another planet. It seems that we are on Mars, even though Mars is the red planet, but that is irrelevant. It was the most magical end to a stem that I think that I have ever experienced. It was really beautiful. The sunset seemed to be painted by Vincent van Gogh, and it was really impressive. I’ll never forget that on the last day of shooting.

PS: What is the last thing you ordered online?
Domino’s pizza.

PS: What is the last thing that you sent a text message?
I said to my sister, “He left Me at the door.”

PS: What is the last thing you had to drink?
An iced latte with oat milk.

PS: What is the last photo in your camera roll?
I yesterday to the protests with one of my best friends, Corey.

PS: What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?
I turn on my little star projector. It helps Me to fall asleep. I have a very messy mind — I don’t know why, probably many of the things that have to do with a 21 — and so it takes me a long time to shut my mind off before you go to bed, so that the stars are useful.

PS: What is the last trip that happened?
A weekend getaway to Joshua Tree, which was very fun. I wrote a bit of music with friends.

PS: What was the last gift you’ve ever received?
I just started getting into jewelry. All my life, I was like, “I’m going to lose. There is no point.” But now, I’m like, “I have to have a hand-me-downs for their grandchildren, and relics.” So, I’m going to try to find pieces that are really special to me. One of my best friends, Joey, gave me a ring for my birthday which is very special.

PS: what is The last thing you took home from a set?
Probably a bra. I literally — this is bad, I don’t want to have a reputation for this — but I take a pinch of almost all the sets of the film I work because I am very bad in finding bras for me and our costume designers are really good at finding bras that I like. So it was, probably, the bra took me to the house of The cloudsthat was the last movie he filmed.

PS: What is the last beauty secrets/tip that I learned that you always do now?
I would not say that there is a technique or something, but honestly, I think that it is only a “less is more” for me lately. This whole quarantine has made me feel that, in embracing my natural skin. I have a lot of freckles, naturally, that a lot of people don’t know because not much is needed to be covered. But, more recently, I have not been using much makeup. Sometimes, I’ll do it for fun, but, yes, less is more. Also, the flush on the nose, a thing that right now is funny to me, because it is something that I have never thought of, but I’m very pale, so it gives me a little color, which is always useful. So I’ve been doing a little bit of blush on the nose.

PS: What is the last song, and the album that you heard?
“Good News” by Mac Miller and Ungodly Hour by Chloe x Halle.

PS: What was the last song you sang in the shower?
“Crazy” by Patsy Cline. It was one of the first songs that I learned when I was 8 years old, and I think the road trip to Joshua Tree made me listen to some oldies.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
I drank too many shots of tequila on my 21st birthday — he had not done that before!

PS: What is the last thing you searched for on Google?
I was looking for this baby meme, which really is saying to me.

PS: What is the last book you read?
Only Children by Patti Smiththat is a great book that I recommend to all the world.

PS: What was your last workout?
Squats. Just a lot of squats. I’m going to go in these phases where I don’t work for a long time, and then I’m going to look at myself and be like, “Oh, honey, what you need to do something.” So I’m going to look for videos online of quick little workouts and then you can be like, “Okay, I did it!”

PS: What is the last piece of advice you received that changed your life?
It’s funny how at the time, we can think of the smallest things are the end of the world, but in a couple of months, a couple of weeks, maybe even a couple of days, we’re going to look back and laugh at those times or being able to say that we take something away from him. All of the feelings that we have experienced is beneficial in any way, shape or form. No feeling is always useless. I’ve had some friends and family instill in me, recently, that has been very revealing.
