I hope you’ve made plans to see Hulu The Great because it is a heck of a drinking binge. It is a very loose portrait of Catherine the Great’s rise to power, but it is a fun show, however. I was excited to see Elle Fanning step into the regal role of Catherine, the opposite of Nicholas Hoult the fearless Peter. But I wasn’t expecting to get down quickly to Catherine side of the lover, Leo, played by Sebastian de Souza.
As someone who expects to always a powerful female character that steers clear of romance, especially if this means that the damping of your own unit, I could not help but roll my eyes when Catherine and Leo develop feelings for each other. My annoyance turned to frustration when I realized how charming Leo, and then, as if a switch flipped, I found myself looking forward to each and every scene with Leo. Maybe it is your smile. Maybe it is your sense of humor witty and strokes. Maybe it is your healthy support and admiration from Catherine. Maybe all of those things (totally), but the point is that now I’m a Leo stan. So in honor of the sweet poet, keep reading to thirst during their scenes — huzzah!
