Eurovision Song contest: The Story of the Fire of the Saga hit Netflix on July 26, and is filled with some very entertaining performances. The film is starring Rachel McAdams and Will Ferrell as an Icelandic duo named Sigrit Ericksdottir and Lars Erickssong that are competing in the holder eurovision song contest, but certainly not the only familiar faces in the cast. Demi Lovato and Dan Stevens also star as the talent of the contestants. Of course, one of the best appearances is Pierce Brosnan as Lars father. Not only does he look unrecognizable in his scruffy beard (seriously, I had to do two double-takes), but I could not stop laughing in the Mamma Mia connections in the entire movie. In fact, ABBA plays an important role in the narration of the story.

At the beginning of the film, a young Lars can be seen dancing in front of the TV as ABBA performs “Waterloo” at Eurovision. Unlike Brosnan’s character in the Mamma Mia movies, his character in Eurovision Song Contest it is much less impressed with Lars interest in the music of the band. Sigrit and Lars finally sing the song later in the film during a group medley that includes “Believe” by Cher and “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas.

In case you weren’t aware, ABBA really competed and won Eurovision in 1974, which helped launch the career of the band. From there, we began to sell many records, and, of course, have everything a jukebox musical developed after their hit songs. So, Brosnan in the role in the Eurovision Song Contest it is basically a full-circle moment!
