If you are looking for something a little more dramatic than Netflix’s latest comedy teen fare, Blood And Water it is exactly what you are looking for. The upcoming South Africa series follows Puleng Khulamo (Ama Qamata), a young man of 16 years of age, a student that abruptly transfers in the prestigious Parkhurst the University, after the meeting, one of the most popular students in the school, Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema). So Fikile and the rest of Puleng’s new classmates who do not know is that the sweet-faced teen is the hope for more improvement: Puleng transferred schools because he is convinced that Fikile is actually his long lost sister that was kidnapped at birth 17 years ago. Super chill way to make friends, am I right?
By the look of the series’ official trailer, Puleng has definitely bitten off more than they can chew. The one-minute clip features everything we’ve come to expect from the shows that take place in prestigious high schools: elegant school uniforms, dubious friendships, steamy, dates of study, the fights in the courtyard, and a lot of explosions emotional. Directed by Nosipho Dumisa, the show is seen as a combination of All Americans‘s family drama, Elite‘s self-indulgent mess, and You‘s stalker mystery vibrations. What is absolutely a mix we can get behind!
Next to Qamata and Ngema, the show features stars like Gail Mabalane (The Imposter), Dillon Windvogel (Bhai’s Cafe), Arno Greeff (Playboyz), and Natasha Thahane (The Queen). Watch the trailer above and the photos of the first season ahead, before Blood And Water premieres May 20.
