With the news that Mulan it will be released exclusively at Disney+, we wonder if Disney will release any other 2020 Disney movies+ instead of waiting for the reopening of the theatres. Now, everything is in the air, but the success or failure of Mulan it could provide a model for that more films are being held back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Versions under the umbrella of Disney for the rest of the year include The New Mutants, The King’s Man, the Black Widow, the Soul, the Freeand West Side Story. Most likely it is too early still to speculate about Free and West Side Story, both of which are scheduled for the month of December of the press; West Side Story it was always slated for a Winter release as a potential awards contender. While Free it might be a good option for Disney+ audiences, West Side Story it is a lot of non-Disney-branded movie and could do well to wait until you can have a traditional theatrical release, especially taking into account that the window of eligibility for the Oscars has been extended.

The current versions, The Black Widow it seems as the Disney the more likely it is that you want to secure a theatrical release for. As a long-awaited entry into the Marvel universe, has had “blockbuster” written all over it since it was announced. It is the type of film that is “supposed” to be seen on the big screen, with great special effects and action scenes. Since all the Marvel movies are being delayed by now, the strategy could be to just keep pushing back and wait. After all, The Black Widow not take place in chronological order, but it fits in the Marvel timeline just after Captain America: Civil War. It can be easily moved around without disturbing the continuity, even if another Marvel movie comes out before it finally does.

The most interesting case is, without a doubt The New Mutantsa X-Men of the branch. The film was made when 20th Century Fox was still in his own study, but in the year 2019, Disney bought 21st Century Fox, including the iconic film studio, and changed the name to the current 20th-Century Studies of moniker. The movies that are already in production or on the schedule that I have transferred with the offer, which makes this complicated. According to Forbes, HBO has first broadcast rights to the films made under 20th Century Fox banner (that The New Mutants was, since was completed before the acquisition), and Disney is contractually obligated to release all remaining, completed Fox images in the cinemas. Could Disney buy your way out of this? Possibly, but we don’t know yet, so now, The New Mutants is once again in limbo. For now, it’s a waiting game for all the world to see that Disney releases make their planned dates, which are pushed back, and that, in your case, make the jump directly to the transmission.
