While some people always go back to The Office or Friends when rewatching favorite shows, I’ve always gravitated towards Psych. The show, which follows the antics of a fake-psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend/partner in crime Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill), in the first place struck me during a commercial break of an episode at random of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I’ve always been a fan of crime and detective shows, but often drain me emotionally after a couple of hours due to the dark nature of the material. Psych immediately seemed different. Although it is often still a murder, his approach has always been more about Shawn, Gus, and their ridiculous interactions with others than the crime itself.

It didn’t take long for me to be hooked and I’d often find myself caught up in marathons on the USA Network and quoting the show in my everyday life. Did my friends appreciate me telling them to “suck?” No, but I did so anyway, sometimes in the song as Shawn and Gus. Psych it is one of the two shows that I’ve never had on DVD, and I have vivid memories of watching while on school trips, relax in the hot tub, and as I would like to go to bed. Always puts a smile on my face and rewatching it makes me feel that I am again with old friends, or be a stranger looking. I am not dejected due to the bad aging jokes or stories as I do when I see other programs of the same era (Psych originally ran in the united states of 2006-2014). That’s part of the reason why it is often recommended the show to others.

I know that I’m not alone in my love for the show. Psych it has a strong fanbase, affectionately dubbed the Psych-Os. The group of the passion for the show is most evident in their attendance at the sessions of midnight Psych: The Musical at the San Diego Comic-con 2013 and as part of the three-city tour to Psych: The Movie in the year 2017 (both of which I attended). The fan base has always made me feel wanted, and has even prompted some of my rewatches, especially when someone online mentions a fun easter egg of an episode or a quote that you love.

It has been a while since I actively sat down thinking “I’m going to see Psych the day of today.” However, every time I see it pop up as a recommendation, I almost always click. Now that all the seasons are streaming on the peacock, I, at least, to know that if I can’t find something to do, will always be waiting for me. And if you are looking for a place to start, we recommend that you consult the Friday the 13thinspired in “Tuesday the 17th” and the Twin Peaks tribute, with two Needles.”
