Netflix is White Lines takes you on a journey with Zoe Walker (Laura Haddock), a Mancunian who just wants to know what happened with your brother, Axel (Tom Rhys Harries), 20 years ago, when he disappeared in Ibiza. After his body is discovered buried in a rich family property in Almeria, Spain, she goes there to get to the bottom of it all. Immediately after arriving in spain, in the desert, a police officer tells him that the area used to host the spaghetti westerns back in the day, but it is now a theme park. And it’s a true story.
Zoe and her husband, Mike (Barry Ward), sit down with the officer in what appears to be a lounge in the middle of what seems to be a theme of the West side of the road in this desert. Believe it or not, there are a couple Western-themed places in and around Tabernas, Spain. There is a real theme park called Oasys (formerly known as Mini Hollywood) in Almería. The park features artists and performers to put in the films of the West, there is an animal reserve with over 200 species, a water park, restaurants, and event space.
Just a little ways up the road from Oasys is another point that goes for both Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood. It is a smaller location that was also used for the film of the West, until it became a small theme park. It also employs artists that put in the West’s films and it has a real salons and restaurants. Fort Bravo is still an active film set, and was probably used to film the scenes in White Lines.
As part of the only desert in Europe, Tabernas is the perfect backdrop for Western films, with the dust kicking and hitting the sun on high. In Texas Hollywood, the area is divided to display both Western-style and traditional architecture of the Spanish influence. Oasys, as the greater commercial park of the two, is more colorful and has more activities for the whole family to participate in. Both parks are open to the public, however, and thanks to them for being so close, you can easily see both in the same trip.
There is No word yet on whether or not White Lines you will have a second season, but never gave us all the answers on how Axel’s body came to be in Almeria, which means that we can return to the desert again in the future.
