The Hamilton the film, which hits Disney+ July 3, not only is a throwback to a reinvented version of the American Revolution: it is a return to the early days of the smash-hit musical. Although the movie is just being released now, which was actually filmed during a couple of years ago, fresh off the heels of their near-sweep at the Tony Awards.
According to a Deadline report at the time of the film, advertisement, the Hamilton the movie was filmed in the year 2016in the course of three performances in the weeks before some of the original cast members departed from the company. Hand program reported that the show was filmed live on June 26 and June 28 of that year; in addition, in some sections we filmed it again without a hearing. This was done in order to allow the cameras to capture different angles that would not be possible to obtain without interfering significantly with a live performance.
The filming took place a couple of weeks before the original stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Phillipa Soo left the show, but that in reality were not the first original star to exit. Jonathan Groff, who originated the role of King George III, who had left the cast in April of 2016, but he returned for special performances for the filming of the effects. Miranda, Odom, and Soo left the company on the 9th July. It is worth noting, however, that, technically speaking, the film version of Hamilton it is not the full, original Broadway cast, in the true sense of the phrase: the original set of states Betsy Struxness pointed out in his Instagram she had already left the company, when the movie was filmed and was not asked again (as Groff was) for the shoot.
Hamilton‘s Tony-winning director, Tommy Kail, he directed the film version as well. The main cast includes Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Odom, like Aaron Burr, Soo, as Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler, and Mary Reynolds, and Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan and James Madison.
