A lot of The Umbrella Academy‘s of the second season revolves around the Hargreeves’ attempt to stop the end of the world in 1963, in Dallas. But after the brothers to avoid the events that they believe cause the apocalypse — the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Vania’s (Ellen Page) ira — set off to another dangerous threat to explode in a guy named Harlan (Justin Paul Kelly).
We first meet Harlan when his mother, Sissy (Marin Ireland), accidentally hits Vania with your car when the confused time-traveler arrives from the future. Vania, who suffers from amnesia after the incident, it is absorbed by Sissy and her perverse husband, Carl (Stephen Bogaert). The pair of cars, Vania, in charge of Harlan, which is on the autism spectrum, and the two form a close bond. Shortly after that, Vania, is attacked by the Swedes — a trio of brothers who are on the hunt for the Hargreeves children in the name of the Driver (Kate Walsh) — she tells Sissy that she has to leave to protect the family. Harlan flees after listening to the conversation, and after an intense search, Vania sees his toy floating in a lake. She uses her skills superhuman to lift the water and pulls an unconscious Harlan to safety before giving mouth-to-mouth. Although Vania revive him, she unknowingly transfers some of his powers in the process.
Later in the season, Vania tries to escape with Sissy, and Harlan, but is stopped by Carl’s police brother. An intense exchange causes Vanya to lose control and the FBI apprehends her, believing that she is a Russian spy. The torture of a government building, but Harlan can feel his pain, while he is back on the farm with their parents. He enters in a state that does not respond as he channels Vania energy, causing Carl to try to take him away. When Sissy threatens to shoot her husband, he forces the gun out of his hand and accidentally shoots a bullet towards Harlan, who uses his new powers to deflect the shot and kill Carl.
Meanwhile, Vania rage triggers a whirlwind of sonic energy that cancels his tormentors and begins to rip the government building in a thousand pieces. As their powers cause havoc, they also form a protective bubble around her, that Ben (Justin H. Min) is able to infiltrate. Stops the destruction, talking with Vanya, and he sacrifices himself to stabilize the harmful outburst. After Vania regains consciousness, he realizes that Harlan has his powers and has also lost control of them. She and her siblings head to the farm, where you save Harlan from The Driver, and Vania is carried to the back of her capabilities. However, Harlan maintains some of the telekinetic capabilities and practices on her toy while he and Sissy drive to New Mexico at the end of the season.
Harlan the final scene could very well be an Easter egg for a possible third season. When the Hargreeves to return to the present and see that his father now runs something called the Sparrow of the Academy — not the Umbrella Academy — a silhouette of a new superpowered squad appears, and one of the members is standing next to a small levitating box. Could it be Harlan? A descendant who developed their powers of Harlan? Someone totally unrelated? Since he is not a character from Gerard Way’s source material, it is difficult to guess. But with all the time traveling and difficult gaps, anything is possible.
