Alicia Keys presented her new song, “the Perfect Way to Die,” during the 2020 BET Awards on Sunday, and it was nothing short of emotional. “If it is spiritual, or blues, jazz or hip-hop, the music has always been the voice of the Black experience,” Amanda Signs said the introduction of Key performance. “It speaks to our resilience, our strength, and even in the dirtiest of circumstances in which we find melody. Tonight, as we revel in Black music, we must also honor the lives of those who have brought us to this moment of consciousness”.
As the singer played the piano in an empty city, there were shots of murals with Breonna Taylor, Sandra Sosa, and George Floyd during the entire video. The performance ended with a powerful note — Keys stood up from the piano and knelt in the street, that was filled with the names of the Black men and women whose lives have been lost.
