Warner Bros Pictures are offering the rental of his touching film 2019 Only The Mercy free of charge during the month of June. Based on the real life work of civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson, the film follows Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) as he is seen in the case of death row inmate Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx). McMillian was arrested for the murder of a young woman of 18 years age, girl, and despite having a clear alibi with witnesses, was sentenced to die in 1987. The powerful biopic not only features some of Jordan and Foxx’s best work, but it does highlight the inequality of the criminal justice system in the united states.
According to the announcement of the film’s official Twitter account, Only The Mercy is released free of rent in response to the worldwide protests against police brutality towards Black Americans. “We believe in the power of the story,” the caption reads. “Our film Only The Mercybased on the life work of civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson, is a resource that we can humbly offer to those who are interested in learning more about the systemic racism that affects our society. For the month of June, Only The Mercy will be available to rent free of charge via digital platforms in the united states.”
The post adds, “actively be part of the change that our country is desperately looking for, we invite you to learn more about our past and of the innumerable injustices that have brought us to where we are today. Thanks to the artists, writers, and advocates who helped make this film happen. Watch with your family, friends, and allies.
