Tyler Perry has offered to pay for Rayshard Brooks, the funeral expenses after the the 27-year-old was fatally shot by an officer of the Atlanta police the 12 of June. During a press conference Monday, the attorney L. Chris Stewart announced that the producer is covering all the expenses of the funeral.
“We want to recognize and thank Tyler Perry, who spoke to us and that will take care of the funeral of the family,” the lawyer said. “It is a support like that and it is the people that are really into this community, that the love of the community, that you want the healing, and [want] families like this so that you never have to go through something like this. It is a step forward . . . we want to thank you for such a generous move.”
Rayshard was killed by the police at a Wendy’s drive-through after the officers said he resisted arrest and stole an officer’s taser. The manner of his death was a homicide. The police officer who shot Rayshard has since been firedand the second officer involved has been placed on administrative duty. His death has caused a new wave of protests across the country calling for an end to police brutality and racism. Rayshard is survived by wife Tomika Miller and their four children, the Dream, the Memory, the Blessing and the Mekai.
