There will be a Season 2 of Hulu Normal People?

For now, we can say with confidence that the BBC and Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney of the novel, Normal People, is the most popular rom-com drama series, 2020. Describes the lives of two Irish teenagers — Marianne and Connell— as they navigate early adulthood, first love, and heartbreak, the series of 12 episodes of pure emotion. Everything, from the frankness of its sex scenes, Marianne-summer-style — and especially’connell of the damn silver chain— silver, has captured the hearts of all of us.

But the series ended on a sad note, and now that we’ve recovered from having our heart ripped out and stomped on in the final moments, we wonder if the second season is in the cards. In summary: no. The adaptation is very faithful to Rooney, the book and the series of steps of all the topics addressed in the original story. Of course, we know that it is not unprecedented for the TV series ” stories to eclipse that of the book that inspired it (take Game of Thrones, for example), but is rarely done well or in a way that does justice to the characters.

Lovers of the book will probably argue that the beauty of’connell and Marianne the whole love story is at the heartbreaking end that you see your life go in different directions. And I agree. It is rare that a fiction, the romance is left with loose ends, instead of being tied up in a neat little bow by the final chapter — and that is exactly what makes Normal People so credible. These two characters cannot communicate, and their relationship is essentially a series of frustrating communication problems and breakdowns — despite the fact that we clearly have a lot of love for one another — so that it is almost impossible to imagine that suddenly appears your sh*t together at the end of his time at the university. Rooney book ends in exactly the same way that the series does: in a heartbreaking cliff, so that is exactly how the series end.

The Normal People the creators have already directed their attention to the adaptation of one of Rooney’s other best-sellers, Conversations With Friendstherefore it would seem that a second season of Normal People it’s definitely out of the question, at least in the foreseeable future. In an interview with Wonderland Magazine in May, Paul Mescal (who plays’connell) admitted that you are not happy with how the series ended, but I would not say that not to enter in’connell shoes again in the future. That said, when asked point-blank if a season two was in the works, he said, “it Is not in the cards at the moment.”

We will keep our fingers crossed for a follow-up of the novel of Rooney who puts up with Marianne and’connell years down the line when their lives inevitably meet again (you know, or not)? Of course. And if that time comes, we’ll be the first campaign for a second season. But until then, we’re going to be here, to clean our tears.
