As part of Sunday American Idol final, Lionel Richie returned to his roots with a performance of the classic “We are the World”. In a nod to the original, Richie tore the song before that he was accompanied by the winner Only Sam that was followed by the finalists Jonny West, James Dillon, and Francis Martin, in a very interesting place, the New York City setting. There was also an appearance by other judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, who seemed to be living her forest of fantasy as overlapping in the trees.
The current American Idol the finalists and the judges were also joined by Idol alums Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Kellie Pickler, Laine Hardy, Gabby Barrett, Alejandro Aranda, Jordin Sparks, Katharine McPhee, Phillip Phillips, and Ruben Studdard.
