In hard times, John Legend soul-nourishing music is still manages to maintain in us a feeling of hope and his recent Tiny Desk Concert makes us feel exactly that. As part of the Small Table in the home of the series, Legend performed his concert in the los Angeles office of his management company Friends at Work, backed by his seven of the band of Philadelphia. During the performance, a screen in the background projecting an image that said, “Speak the truth even if your voice shakes.” In the light of the COVID-19 outbreak and protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a Legend says that he hopes that his heartfelt interpretations of “Conversations in the Dark”, “More to Love”, and more serve as reminders of the hope, resilience, and love.
“I wrote all the songs before the pandemic, we’ve seen it before, the people marching in the streets, mourning [the] the life of George Floyd expressing his outrage,” the Legend said. “But some of these songs feel even more appropriate now, I feel like we need them more now then we did even when I wrote. This song ‘greatest Love, it is about the power of love to get us through difficult times, the idea that when you have love, it becomes more resistant, it becomes more hopeful.
