Read Big Sean’s Emotional Tribute to Naya Rivera

Big Sean is remembering the life and legacy of the ex-girlfriend Naya Rivera. On Friday, the rapper he wrote a heartfelt tribute to the Glee starwho died by accidental drowning in California’s Lake Piru. “Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless his Soul!” Big Sean captioned a gallery of lace with Naya and her 4-year-old son, Josey (whom he shared with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey). “Thank you for blessing us all with her talent and presence. you are a hero! Not only because of how he saved his son, also because of the barriers you broke down for many people, making them feel confident in themselves and stand tall and proud when they could not achieve on your own.”

The rapper then reflected Naya’s personal impact on him and admitted that he is still coming to terms with his death. “I appreciate and value everything that happened between us to make me wiser and a better person,” he said. “I’m still in mourning and in shock, I cannot believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family, and I know that your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya.” Big Sean and Naya started dating in April 2013 and became engaged in October of that year. However, they canceled their wedding the following year.

Big Sean’s eulogy came six days after the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office recovered the 33-year-old, the actress’s body from Lake Piru. Naya family and his companions have continued to post heart-rending tributes since his death was confirmed. Glee creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan also shared their plans to start a college fund for Josey. “Our hearts are with his family, especially his mother, Yolanda, that was a big part of the Joy of the family and his son Josey,” they said in a statement. “The three of us are currently in the process of creating a college fund for the son beautiful Naya loved her.”
