Netflix has just confirmed that a Chicken Run sequel is on the way, exactly 20 years after the original film was released. The details are very scarce at the moment, apart from the announcement that was published on the official Netflix Twitter account on Tuesday morning. All we really know is that the production is expected to begin in the year 2020, with Aardman animations once more to the head (like the first movie).

Apparently, talks about a Chicken Run sequel have been swirling for a while, and the conversation appears every few years. The fact that Netflix is now distributing the movie outside of China, though, well, that is the great news. To refresh your memory, Chicken Run it was released in 2000 and is a classic movie that most of the ’90s, the children will remember. In fact, it became the top grossing stop-motion animated film in the world and still holds that title for two decades. In the movie, Rocky (a rooster) and Ginger (a chicken) devise a plan to escape from a chicken farm, when they learn that their owner is planning to kill them.

This time, Chicken Run the center of Ginger that lives in a human being-free, chicken paradise, and it is there that she and Rocky shell of an egg, and the daughter of Molly, is born, Variety reports. As Molly grows up and dreams of a life outside of the island, “the rumors begin to float of a new and terrible threat in the continent, forcing Ginger to gather his troops and put their own hard-won freedom in a situation of risk for the good of all chicken-kind”.

Thus, while Chicken Run it’s about breaking outside, it seems that the sequel will be more about breaking in. All of the details we have for now, but will keep you posted as more comes to light.
