NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 09: Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee to the cast of the NBC

On Thursday, fans of Smash he received the news that would be waiting for: the cult favorite of the musical series will return, only this time to Broadway instead of as a tv revival. The Broadway show will be called Smash, A New Musicalwith Steven Spielberg as producer and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who worked on the show, as composers. As a reminder, the NBC show followed the making of a Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe, and starring Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, and Christian Borle, with McPhee and Hilty vying for the coveted role of Marilyn.

Spielberg said in a statement that he is “delighted personally to be a part of this musical and its way to Broadway,” as he argues Smash “near and dear to you [his] heart”. As to whether the new musical will be on the program or the show within the show, the press release noted that the “story will follow the ups and downs of getting Pump of Broadway, but they liberally start of the series.”

Don’t worry, the main characters of the series, as the singer-songwriters Julia and Tom, as well as the actresses Ivy and Karen, will be in the music scene. And while not all of the songs Shaiman and Wittman wrote for the Smash the series is going to be used in the new musical, “Let Me be your Star” absolutely will be included.
