Miley Cyrus returned to the MTV VMAs stage as she performed “Midnight Sky” live for the first time on Sunday night. Wearing a sexy black dress, the 27-year-old singer strutted her stuff as she crooned the lyrics about letting go of past loves. Of course, one of the best moments of the performance was when she ripped off the skirt of her dress and swung on a disco ball. Anyone else getting “Wrecking Ball flashbacks? The new track, which dropped on Aug. 13, seems to chronicle her most publicized romances over the past year, as she makes references to exes Liam Hemsworth, Kaitlynn Carter, and Cody Simpson. Seeing that she performed her emotional breakup song “Slide Away” during the show last year, her latest performance about embracing the single life really brings things full-circle.
