In a virtual interview in August. 14, Meghan Markle sat down with Emily Ramshaw, the co-founder and CEO of 19 Represents — a summit founded to empower women and shine a light “on the issues of the 19th Amendment” — to discuss the impact of the sufragette movement, specifically in what refers to groups that are under-represented as the Black community. The interview comes just a handful of months after that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the decision to split his time between the uk and North America in January. As part of the discussion, Meghan opened up about the devastating and empowering purposes to return home during a turbulent time of social and political calculation has been made in it.
“It went from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is changing.”
“To come back and see what this state of things . . . it was just devastating,” Meghan told Emily of their initial performance. “It was very sad to see that in our country it was at that moment. If there is any kind of silver lining in that, I would say that in the weeks after the murder of George Floyd, in the peaceful protests that were seeing in the voices that came from outside, in the way that people were really masters of their role . . . it went from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is changing.”
Meghan will make history in the year 2020 as the first member of the royal family from exercising their right to vote in the presidential election of the united states, which is the reason why she is using her voice to speak in favour of marginalised communities and encouraging everyone to vote. “From my point of view, it is not new to see this undercurrent of racism and, indeed, the unconscious bias, but I think that to see the changes that you are doing right now is actually — is something that we hope to be a part of,” he said. “And to be a part of using my voice in a way that I have not been able to of late. So, yes, it is good to be home.”
