Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji of Friendship in Pictures

And on the seventh day, God said, “let there be Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji.” The Unsafe the stars are a true gift to this Earth, that shows us what true friendship is all about, both when they are in character of Issa Dee and Molly Carter (in seasons one through three, at least) and when the cameras stop rolling. Sometimes you never know if the actors who play BFFs in a TELEVISION program that are really close in real life, but in the case of Issa and Yvonne, I’m delighted to report that they are absolutely.

Your IRL relationship dating back to 2012, when Yvonne moved to Los Angeles and began crossing paths with Issa in several events around the city. “We were the only two Black girls in which appreciate each other as creators of content,” Yvonne told Hot 97 during a interview again in 2017noting that she was mostly doing standup comedy at the time. When Yvonne auditioned for the role of Molly UnsafeIssa decided to give it a chance, despite the fact that Yvonne had no agent or prior experience in acting, because she was impressed by Yvonne’s work in a series that he produced called FirstGen.

The four seasons of Unsafe later, Issa and Yvonne are practically family. “Issa the dopest person in the world. We are the perfect ying yang . . . she is an easy person to love,” Yvonne gushed in Jemele Hill’s podcast earlier this year. They support each other’s careers, celebrate birthdays together, stunt on the red carpet, and are almost always made jokes. In honor of Yvonne and Issa of the friendship, I’m taking a look at all the pictures of them doing what they do best: serve of gravity of the friendship of the objectives. Here’s hoping Issa and Molly to fix things and figure out their sh*t in season five of Unsafebecause we need more on-screen moments with these two.
