Pete Davidson new film The King of Staten Island it is something of a departure from her usual act of the comedy. For the fans who only know him from his SNL appearances, or his tabloid-fodder personal life, it may be surprising, but in reality, the film is heavily based on Davidson of the real life.

“That guy is definitely close to me, as long as five years. All of these experiences are definitely real, “Davidson told The Washington Post. “[It] it is 100% me,“he added to SFGateand that is not hard to believe. His character in the film, Scott, shares quite a few similarities with the real Davidson. Both struggle with your mental and physical health (down to Crohn’s disease, something that Davidson has been quite open aboutand lost their firefighter fathers in the construction collapses: the fiction of Scott’s father died in a building when Scott was seven years old, the same age Davidson was when his father died in the Twin Towers on 9/11. The film deals with Scott, the mother from the starting to date, again, something Davidson also has had to deal with in the course of his life.

In many ways, The King of Staten Island it is a way for Davidson to reclaim their own history from the gossip of the mill and of the public speculation. All the messy parts of Davidson’s life, have been on display during the past few years, from your mental health struggles of their public commitment (and dissolution) with Ariana Grande, followed by a headline grabbing relationship on the rebound with Kate Beckinsale.

“When you become fodder for the tabloids, you really don’t have a say in how they are perceived or the truth or any of that, in fact,” Davidson explained to the Post. “So I really took advantage of this opportunity to show you how I really feel. And I think there’s something beautiful in that. And I’m very grateful [director] Judd [Apatow] it allowed me to do that.” That also includes the casting of several of his personal friends and family in the film, although they are not professional actors. Ultimately, Davidson admits, the film is about the search of the catharsis itself, as it is to tell a compelling and entertaining story.

“It is as transparent and honest and open-minded as I could possibly be. I hope that if you see it, maybe you see what I see in myself,” he said SFGate. “It allowed Me to heal on a personal level. My main goal in doing this was to grow out of it.”
