It is Raised by Wolves in fact, part of the Alien movie of the franchise? That is one of the theories circling the next HBO Max sci-fi, drama, which dropped its first trailer on Wednesday. From Raised by Wolves it shares a creator with the Alien series — Ridley Scott— it’s easy to see why the public may suspect that there is a connection, but, as it turns out, the show takes place in a totally unrelated fictional universe.
According to Deadlinethe new series “it focuses on two androids — Father and Mother — with the task of raising children in a mysterious lady planet. As the thriving colony of human beings with the threat of being torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that the control of the beliefs of the human beings is a dangerous and difficult task.” The premise of not sharing some things in common with the Aliens of the series: the conflict between humans and the alien species, space travel and colonization, the evolution and the nature of humanity itself. These are the themes that appear in a lot of Scott’s work, in fact, including Alien and Blade Runner.
The Alien franchise has been in limbo for a couple of years, thanks to the creativity in matters of business complications. The last film of the series was, 2017 Alien: Covenantthe second film in a prequel trilogy (which began with 2014 Prometheus). With the acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney, the franchise rights among the many who have traveled to Disney. A 2019 Variety the article revealed that the third prequel is in developmentwith Scott set to direct, but no more news has been released about the potential of the new delivery.
As far as the first trailer goes, it reveals a lot while actually revealing very little. There are a lot of visual effects for the science-fiction dystopian setting, in addition to suggestions of how action-packed and potentially violent, the series can get, as well as giving us a vision of what the Mother and Father are against it, and the complicated “family” of the relations between them and the children they are raising.
