Netflix decided to give internet detectives another run at cracking mysterious cases, by the reactivation of Unsolved Mysteries. In July, the streaming platform has published the first batch of six episodes, with unexplained disappearances, family tragedies, and the sightings of UFOS. The true crime series uses interviews and news reports to recount the circumstances of each case, but unlike the original sample, there is a host or any extensive re-enactments. Given that there are still more than six episodes is expected to fall later this year as part of the first season, fans are wondering if any of those are going to be the update of the episodes, and the answer is no.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, cocreater Terry Dunn Meurer said that she does not think that is going to happen in the future, due to how fast social media works when it comes to covering the news in real time. “We would like to [have update episodes] but it is somewhat more complicated in the streaming platform,” she explained. “I guess maybe it could lead to an extra [episode]? But we are assuming that with social media if there is a significant update in any of these cases, it is likely to be pushed out faster than there are. If something happens, it will happen very quickly if there is a great news, because in a case is solved . . . from now on it is not broadcast, it is a different kind of animal. Trust me, the world is going to know if one of these cases gets solved.”
Since the restart of the premiere, Meurer said recently TMZ that have received more than 1,500 tips during the six new Netflix episodes. Of the 1,500, 50 were identified as credible, and were referred to law enforcement agencies.
