I’ve said it once (read: one million times) and I’ll say it again: Zendaya deserves her Emmys win! The 24-year-old Euphoria actress secured the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series during Sunday’s show, and her pure excitement spread through the screen. She made history, both as the youngest lead actress and the second-ever Black actress in Emmys history to receive the award.
After showing up to help host Jimmy Kimmel present, Zendaya celebrated her first-ever Emmys win surrounded by her family and friends. “To the incredible cast and crew of Euphoria; I’m so lucky to get to go work with you every day,” she said in her speech. “I’m inspired by everything you do.”
“I know that this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating,” she acknowledged. “But I just want to say like there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that but there is hope in the young people. To all my peers out there doing the work, in the streets: I see you, I admire you, and I thank you.”
