Six months after The Crown creator and showrunner Peter Morgan announced that the series would end with its fifth seasonhe has changed his mind. Deadline broke the news on July 9 that the series would officially of air for a total of six seasonsin place of five.

“When we started to talk about stories of Series 5, it soon became apparent that to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we must go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” Morgan said in a statement. “To be clear, the 6-Series will not bring us closer to today’s — is to simply allow us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

Morgan initially announced the final show in the month of January along with the reveal that Imelda Staunton had been officially designated to play Queen Elizabeth for the fifth season, taking the reigns of Olivia Colman.

“At first, I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons, but now that we have begun to work on the stories of the fifth season, it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and the location of the bus stop,” Morgan had said in a statement. “I’m thankful for Netflix and Sony to support me in this decision.”

Morgan went on to add that Harry Potter star and BAFTA-award-winning Staunton will be “take The Crown in the 21st Century,” after the current series of the stars, including Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies — the farewell of their functions in the year 2020 in the four season.

Cindy Holland, Netflix VICE president of original content, made a statement saying that the first three seasons of The Crown “has marked an era, and I know that the upcoming fourth season is going to build on this success.” Call the series “a stunning example of the award-winning entertainment,” Netherlands supported Morgan’s decision to end the series earlier than expected and added that she was excited to see how the cast and crew bringing the series to an end.

With the news that the series will go in its origin of the intended six-season, it is fair to say that the faithful fans are grateful for more episodes of your favorite program! The fourth season of the series is scheduled for release at the end of this year, the welcome of Gillian Anderson as Prime Minister of the united kingdom, Margaret Thatcher and newcomer Emma Corrin as a young Diana Spencer, with the fifth season will most likely arrive by the end of 2021, when the production can begin after the COVID-19 pandemic.
