The Golden State Killer terrorized California throughout the 1970s and ‘ 80s, committing at least 50 sexual assaults and 12 homicides. Although she does not have an identification card, the late Michelle McNamara devoted every moment of his spare time to the research and the identification of the serial killer. She wrote about the experience in his book I’m going to Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer, who was the co-author of several other crimes journalists and published posthumously in the year 2018. The story has inspired a new docuseries, which premiered on HBO on June 28.
The true crime book-turned-documentary series, called simply I’m going to Be Gone in the Darkyou have a total of six parts. Starting at 10 pm on the 28 of June of each part will air on successive Sundays in the same time slot. Like most of the HBO series, will be available to stream starting at 7 pm, on the West Coast.
I’m going to Be Gone in the Dark gives a look at the initial of the poor research, McNamara part in bringing the murderer to justice, and how the case affected his mental state. The story is told through McNamara’s own words, the exclusive use of the recordings and excerpts from his book read by the actor Amy Ryan. You can also expect that the new content in the detective story, including interviews with detectives, the survivors and the families of the violent rapist and murderer. While this story unfolds the chilling details and unfathomable crimes of the Golden State Killer, this is also a series about obsession and persistence.
