Before being accused of heinous sex crimes in the decade of 2000, a millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein worked very closely with the head of L Brands, Les Wexner. Not only the virus of Epstein, has almost total control of Wexner finance for several years, but he seemed to consider the employer of a close friend, some of which is depicted in Netflix’s new documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich.
Wexner grew up in Ohio, and after the construction of your empire retailer, came to be known as the Merlin of the Mall by The New York Times. He began his L Marks with The Limited before you add Express, Henri Bendel, Lane Bryant, Abercrombie & Fitch, Bath & Body Works, and Victoria’s Secret. While some of its brands that were most important were the acquisitions, Bath & Body Works was one of his company put up. The portfolio of personal banking and Wexner — quickly became worth a lot of money, and soon after Wexner met Epstein in the late 1980s, in large part fell under Epstein’s control.
Despite not having the work experience in the administration of large sums of moneyEpstein began in finance at Bear Stearns and then went to work for the Wexner. According to The New York Timesit is a little cloudy as to what exactly the virus of Epstein was the managing Wexner, as they never had a formal agreement drawn up. However, in 1991, Wexner signed a three-page power of attorney “that allowed Mr. Epstein to hire people, sign checks, buy and sell properties and borrow the money from you all in the Lord Wexner’s name,” The New York Times she wrote in the year 2019.
Through this working relationship, the Epstein managed to acquire Wexner mansion in Manhattan and a plane, which belonged to Wexner, although no paperwork ever showed any kind of monetary exchange. Also according to The New York TimesMr. Epstein assumed positions of leadership in the Lord Wexner foundation, according to tax records. Two of those foundations contributed a total of about $ 21 million in stock and cash to a charity organization that Mr. Epstein had set up, called C. O. U. P.”
In 2006, Epstein was first accused of multiple counts of sexual abuse and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Eighteen months later, in the middle of Epstein’s trial and subsequent sentence, Wexner broke all ties with him. In 2019, Wexner accused Epstein of the “the illicit appropriation of the ‘large sums of money from his personal fortune of more than a decade before,“according to ABC News. However, Wexner has declined to give more information on the subject, saying simply: “$46 million of the donation in the year 2008 from Epstein to a foundation directed by Wexner’s wife, Abigail, represented only “a part” of the funds that are recovered from Epstein.”
After decades of major L Marks on billions of dollars of the corporation, Wexner resigned in February 2020 as chairman and CEO. He remains president emeritus of L Brands.
