Netflix struck gold with The extraction ofthe recent action movie starring Chris Hemsworth. The film quickly became one of the most successful first-run movies on the streaming service, with an outstanding 90 million households looking at the inside of the first month of its launch. Thus, it is not surprising that within a couple of weeks of its world premiere, Netflix signed an agreement for a The extraction of the sequel.
In an exclusive with DeadlineJoe Russo, the film’s writer, confirmed that the agreement was closed between AGBO and Netflix for a sequel and a script is currently in the very early stages. He went on to say that from now on, it is not known whether the story will pick up where you left off, or maybe go back in time. Joe shared that although a sequel is in the works, there are still many things in the air. The two big question marks are in the present, the potential return of Sam Hargrave as a director, and Hemsworth as Tyler Rake.
You may remember the film’s ambiguous ending in which viewers were free to decide for themselves if Tyler survives shooting in Bangladesh, or go to Ovi, the boy who is kidnapped, as a guardian angel. Many fans — myself included — are the hope of the second; over all, so that you can see Hemsworth fight against the drug lords, escape gunfire, and explosions, and more car chases, but can you blame us? Hemsworth is one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to his turn as Thor in the Avengers films, and it is difficult to imagine that the movie would have done as well without him as the lead.
Unfortunately, we will have to wait anxiously until the script is finished for the confirmation of whether or not Hemsworth will return to establish. On the positive side, Hemsworth is a healthy and friendly relationship with AGBO and Sam, their time working together in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Not to mention, Hemsworth playful suggestion of sequels and prequels in an Instagram video. “There has been a lot of talk about sequels and prequels and all kinds of things. All I can say is, ‘Who knows?’ But with this kind of support is something that I would be happy to jump back in.” It seems that as of now, the odds are tilted in our favor!
There is No release date set for The extraction of 2as the script is still in progress, and the production is currently on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic.
