Not trying to be a new Prince of Bel-Air, and honestly, we’re not crazy with it!

NBC’s beloved comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is getting the reboot treatment with a bit of a spin. The new series will be a reinvention of the classic comedy, inspired by a viral YouTube trailer created by Fresh Prince superfan Morgan Cooper. Bel-Air it is described as a dramatic take on Fresh Princefollowing a street-smart kid who moves from Philadelphia to the high-class neighborhood after getting in trouble with the police. Although reboots of classic shows have been rampant for years — and our rebirth fatigue is very real Bel-Air trailer that Cooper aired in 2019 is as well intriguing, I can’t help but be excited about what the official number will be. It is so good that Will Smith couldn’t resist teaming up with Cooper to become the real thing!

The trailer gives me Dear White People roll with a Unsafe-esque eye for the wardrobe that we really like to see. According to The Hollywood ReporterSmith, Cooper, Benny Medina and Quincy Jones are shopping the series to several streamers, including HBO Max, the peacock, and Netflix. HBO Max currently has the original Fresh Prince for the transmission, so that it would make sense for the reboot to live there. But the peacock should be put in the work to catch the series from Fresh Prince he ran for six seasons on NBC. The nostalgia would be a big selling point!

Cooper will cowrite the script, direct, and to be recognized as a coexecutive producer of the original series from the producers Smith, Jones, Medina, and the creators Andy and Susan Borowitz, all set to return as executive producers. Chris Collins (The Wire, Crash, Sons of Anarchy) has been appointed to be the showrunner, executive producer, and is set to cowrite the script with Cooper. Although the work has not officially begun in the series, and it is not known what is going to be changed once production starts correctly, Bel-Air it is a reboot that might actually flourish in the shadow of its predecessor.
