In honor of Breonna Taylor, who would have turned 27 years old on the 5 of June of 2020, Alicia Keys and Hashtag Reserved (a sketch comedy series created by actresses LaNisa Frederick and Danielle Pinnock), almost gathered to congratulate the purposes of the EMT a happy birthday. Breonna was shot and killed by Louisville police officers after they entered his home without notice during a drug raid on March 13.
“It was indispensable that the worker killed by the police while she was sleeping,” Alicia captioned an Instagram video of her singing “Happy Birthday” in Breonna’s honor. “She should be alive to celebrate! But in place of that no charges have been issued and no arrests have been made with the agents involved. I am making more calls today in honor of her. I hope that u too!”
In addition to Alice heart-wrenching performance, Hashtag Booked also shared a video of 30 Black women in the entertainment industry — including Pose star Mj Rodriguez, Anjelika Washington, Robin Thede, Yvette Nicole Brown, Phoebe Robinson, and Simone Missick — send your good wishes for Breonna. The video is set to a soundtrack of Glee star Amber Riley singing “Happy Birthday”.
The touching video was uploaded in the same week in which the writer Cate Young launched the #BirthdayForBreonna campaignan initiative that encourages people to take direct action to ensure Breonna’s death is not ignored, and make those responsible accountable for their actions.
