A Review of the Eurovision Song contest: The Story of the Fire of the Saga

When I first heard about Netflix’s Eurovision Song contest: The Story of the Fire of the SagaI knew I was going to love it. If it was even half as ridiculous as the Eurovision contest and knowing Will Ferrell, probably would be — it would certainly be worth a watch. Well, now that the film was released on Netflix, let me tell you that my predictions were correct, and I loved it!

The film follows the story of the Icelandic duo Lars Erickssong (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Rachel McAdams), who are probably not brothers, they realize that their dream of competing in the Eurovision song contest. However, all of Iceland seen as a laughing stock, and it is only thanks to a freak accident, that are able to compete. Sigrit is head-over-heels in love with Lars while Lars thinks only of winning the contest and obtaining his father (Pierce Brosnan) approval. Along the way, their bond is tested by the ridiculously good-looking Russian contestant Alexander Lemtov (Dan Stevens), who sees more things in Sigrit of the future that does not include Lars.

Of course, the film would not be complete without an epic soundtrack that includes Ferrell song, because according to Step Brothers he has “the voice of an angel”. It also has everything you would expect from a film about Eurovision song contest, with everything from the cameos of the past winners of the flamboyant costumes to an appearance by Graham Norton, who is a united kingdom in the Eurovision pillar. It also has a couple of things you might not expect, as a possible murder sub-plot and elves to be the catalyst for a couple of important moments.

Now is this a perfect movie? No, because there are a couple of tired tropes, with special participation of Alejandro in the story. But it is a fun movie that I will watch time and time again? That is a resounding yes. You can see for yourself from Eurovision Song contest: The Story of the Fire of the Saga it is currently streaming on Netflix. And if my feelings were not clear enough, is set for an offering to the elves, and get ready for a dump of my unfiltered thoughts.
