Beyoncé has been making their virtual rounds of fall inspiring speeches, and the 2020 BET Awards were no exception. On Sunday night, the singer, who recently announced the upcoming release of his album visual Black Is The Kingsigned by the 20-year anniversary of the BET Awards to accepting the Humanitarian Award and deliver a stirring speech to his fans.
Michelle Obama, began a presentation made in honor of the 38 years of age, a singer, and then a lot of family, friends, and co-workers shared how the singer has helped his community and to others around the world. Tina Knowles-Lawson spoke about how her daughter has always given back, because she knew that she had “a responsibility, because she has been blessed.” The presentation highlighted the work Beyonce does through her non-profit organization BeyGood, to help those most affected by the COVID-19 of the pandemic in the Black community for the granting of scholarships with the Return of the Scholarship. “It’s about giving and paying in the future,” Tyler Perry said of the BeyGood initiative. “That is what Beyonce is about, and that is why she deserves so much of this humanitarian award.”
When the star appeared to almost accept her honor, she kept his speech concise, but powerful. “I want to dedicate this award to all my brothers out there, to all my sisters out there, it inspires me, marching and fighting for change. Their voices are being heard, and that you’re showing to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain,” he said. She urged her fans to continue to “walk in our true power” by voting.
“I’m encouraging you to continue to take action, to continue to change and dismantle a racist and unequal system,” he added. “We have to continue to do this together, keep fighting for each other, and lift each other up, because there are people banking on us to stay at home during the local elections and primary elections.” Before leaving, he asked his fans to vote as if your life depended on it — because they do.
