13 REASONS why (L to r) BRANDON FLYNN as JUSTIN FOLEY, DYLAN MINNETTE as CLAY JENSEN, GRACE SANTIAGO as ANI, and ALISHA BOE as JESSICA DAVIS in episode 401 of 13 REASONS why the Cr. DAVID MOIR/NETFLIX 2020

After four seasons, 13 Reasons Why officially it is coming to an end. The final season hits Netflix on June 5, but we’ve already gotten a couple of glimpses of what is to come with the season four trailer. After that the students of Liberty high framed Monty for Bryce the murder of the last season, it seems that you are going to have all of their past, secrets and lies in the new season. While it is not known how the whole story will end after they leave the Freedom of High, to the members of the cast, the end of the series it feels a lot like graduation. POPSUGAR had the chance to talk with Brandon Flynn, Ross Butler, and Alisha Boe during a Netflix curd in April, and teased of how this season is going to be different from the rest, what was it like to say goodbye to his companions, and how the series end on a note that makes sense.”

POPSUGAR: Last season the group joined in to help cover up that Alex killed Bryce. How are we going to see the consequences of that this season?

Ross Butler: We are all dealing with the fallout of Bryce’s murder and we are all in our own way. I think what will be interesting is that the audience will see how each of their favorite characters go through this. It is a time bomb that almost we are all going to be graduating. How are we going to deal with this in this short period of time? How are we going to get through it? How are we going to support each other? And then, how are we going to do our own thing after high school? I think that is what you carry with you. Not only are we dealing with the fallout [of covering up Bryce’s murder]but only the consequences of everything that has happened in the last three seasons.

PS: This is also your last hurrah together, since it is his last year.

Alisha Boe: Yes, it’s going to be very satisfying to see them graduate, for sure. Definitely going to see matured a lot this season and come into their own and decide what they want for their future and what they have learned in the last years of their high school experience. We will see more of a camaraderie.

PS: would you say that these relationships you have had with each one of the others will continue beyond high school? Or are the urge to go ahead and have their own new experiences?

“Hold on to what has happened to them might be your biggest hold back.”

Brandon Flynn: I think that the intention would be to be with all the world, but there is an understanding that some of these situations and hold on to what has happened to them might be your biggest hold. That would be interesting to fantasize about the time that they stay together, how long it will last. Typically, when you get out of high school, and is not always so close, with the same people.

13 REASONS why (L To r) DYLAN MINNETTE as CLAY JENSEN ROSS and BUTLER as ZACH DEMPSEY in episode 405 of the 13 REASONS for the Cr. DAVID MOIR/NETFLIX 2020

RB: I think that is a common fear among teens, especially graduating from high school. It is not that the uncertainty of, “Oh, man, we’re going to talk all day? We will be in touch with?” Especially if you are not going to the same college. There is a melancholic feeling that, for lack of a better word, a sweet-sour taste. I think that these characters are feeling exactly the same thing. And feels more deeply the scale of “Holy sh*t, do we want to forget all this sh*t has happened to us? Or do we want this to be a part of us for the rest of our lives?” I think it is a relatable feeling, because we all go through some trauma in high school. So, what we want to keep that or move on?

PS: Since this is the end of the season, is almost a senior-year moment for the cast, parting ways and leaving this chapter behind. It was that nostalgic or bittersweet for you as a cast?

RB: Yes, I think so. We had a lot of social gatherings this last season, and a lot of that was remembering the past in the past. A lot of it was just living in the moment and not think too much about the fact that we are not all going to be working on the program together again. We are, obviously, everything is going to stay in contact, but we went through this crazy experience together, and goes to live with us for ever.

“We’re all just collectively excited to close this chapter, but also to start our new future.”

AB: I think that we have all created this strong bond that is very difficult to break, and we’ll all actually see each other and cheer each other in the hope that the best for each other. I personally want to see everyone who worked on the show have amazing careers. I think we all just collectively excited to close this chapter, but also to start our new future.

PS: How would you describe the end? Will fans be satisfied with how it ends?

BF: I think that’s not going to be the satisfaction, the pain, the despair, the abandonment. People have an attachment to our show, which is a wonderful thing. It is something that I’ve become very grateful, but it is just as well that you can’t please all of part of someone who wants to and you want. But I think that we gave it our all to make a great story and end on a note that makes sense, rather than ending on a nice note.

13 REASONS why (L To r) MILES HEIZER as ALEX STANDALL, CHRISTIAN NAVARRO as TONY PADILLA and ALISHA BOE as JESSICA DAVIS in episode 401 of 13 REASONS why the Cr. DAVID MOIR/NETFLIX 2020

PS: What has been your favorite part about playing these characters and tell these stories, and what do you hope fans take away from this season?

RB: I think that the most important thing that I want to take away from the season of the high school is just the beginning of your life. You just have to survive high school, you got through it. It is difficult, but there are a lot of after. And if you can get through the trauma and the insanity that is high school, you’re going to see a new open world on the other side. The high school is not everything.

BF: Yes, I would say that it is simply there for people when you can and you will probably realize that universally that is going to come back around for you when you need them. Stay close to the people that matter to you.

AB: I agree with that. Be a decent person, just to consider what people might be going through. You don’t know.

BF: You’re never going to make it to perfection, but the attempt is what matters.

AB: Yes, the effort you put in trying to better yourself every day.
