To tell the story of a young king’s journey to reclaim his throne in the Black Is The King, who fell in Disney+ July 31, and serves as a visual companion to The Lion King: The Gift, Beyonce took the things to a global level. Ghanaian-American creative Joshua Kissi, who contributed to and directed the Ghana part of the film, wrote on twitter that “there was nothing like it contributes to this vision through stories about the land in my country of origin.” I was going to add, “This would not be possible without my on the ground team Ghana!” Nigeria creative director Ibra Ake he thanked Nigerians for the crew for his work before to joke on Instagram that “usually there is more jokes on honest achievements, but I’m afraid of the hive, so on my best behavior.”

In June, Beyoncé took to Instagram to talk about how to “with this album visual, I wanted to present elements of Black history and the African tradition, with a modern touch and a universal message, and what it really means to find your the self-identity and build a legacy.” By the time of the filming Black Is The King at the global level, Beyoncé was able to create a narrative that fit his vision and showed that in modern times, the world is not as big as we might think.
