When Will be the Hamilton, the Film to Be at Disney Plus?

Broadway fans have been holding out hope that the 11-time Tony award -, Grammy award, Olivier Award-, and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical Hamilton I was going to make its way to the big screen since it premiered in February of 2015. So, Disney finally decided not to throw his shot and is premiering a film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical history, with the original Broadway cast, to the fans more than a year ahead of schedule!

On May 12, the studio announced that the film will be released in Disney+ July 3, just in time for Independence Day, and well ahead of its original Oct. 15, 2021 release date. In a press statement, Robert A. Iger, chairman and ceo of The Walt Disney Company, said the company was “very happy” with the new date of the debut, especially in light of “the extraordinary challenges facing our world,” calling the musical look at Alexander Hamilton life, a story about “the leadership, the tenacity, the hope, the love and the power of the people to unite against the forces of adversity is relevant and of impact.”

The film is described as “a leap forward in the art of ‘capture'”, and combines live theatre and film. Hamilton director Thomas Kail — that will serve as a producer along to Disney, and Miranda — filmed the show on Broadway, Richard Rodgers Theatre before the original cast members started to come out. So, along with Miranda, the fans will be able to see Tony winners Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, and Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, as well as Tony nominees Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, and Jonathan Groff as the King George. Complete the director of the company are Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, and Anthony Ramos (who also stars in the upcoming film adaptation of Miranda In the Heights) as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

“I’m very proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought Hamilton to the screen. He is given all the world to see this film, the best seat in the house,” Miranda said in a statement. “I am very grateful to Disney and Disney+ for the reinvention and move our launch to the 4th of July weekend of this year, in the light of the world turning upside down. I am very grateful to all the fans that asked for this, and I am glad that we are able to make that happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can not wait for you to see.”

We can’t wait to be in the living room where this premiere finally happens!
