Not only she has a killer fashion sense and the kind of spirit that made you want to be your best friend, but she was also one of the few examples of Asian-Americans in the ’80s and ’90s popular culture. We love a legend who can rock fruit in the form of earrings and breaks the glass ceiling! In honor of the most fresh babysitter to ever exist, Netflix has dreamed of The Claudia Kishi Cluba film all about the titular character’s powerful impact in a cast of Asian-American artists and writers who, finally, saw themselves in the media.
Artists such as Yumi Sakugawa, Sarah Kuhn, and Phil Yu, join for the nostalgia of the readings, personal memories, and DIY-style stop-motion collage to explore the importance of representation in media, especially with characters that defy the usual stereotypes that dominate the media. If you’re not a Claudia fan before (seriously, how dare you?), you definitely will be after this!
