College is a complicated time when it comes to dating, particularly if you end up dating someone in your friend group. This is particularly true on Deaf U, as with only around a thousand undergraduate students, the dating pool at Gallaudet University is rather small. Netflix’s Deaf U, which premiered Oct. 9, is a docuseries that follows a group of deaf and hard-of-hearing students at the university as they navigate their final years of school. Like any college relationship, the ones on Deaf U aren’t without their struggles — one results in an abortion while another has to deal with the negative views their family has on their partner.
