Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker sheds a light on the inequality in the distribution of privilege in the united states. The So You Think You Can Dance couple used their popular TikTok presence to break down the disparity between the Black and the white experiences to participate in the “Check Your Privilege” challenge. The audio user @boss_bigmamma indications of contraction and Allison to “put the finger down”, if:
- They have called an insult to race.
- Someone came out of a lift to keep walking with them.
- Someone squeezed her purse in an elevator with them.
- Someone crossed the street to avoid passing them.
- They have been accused of not being able to afford something expensive.
- Have you had fear in your heart, while being arrested by the police
- Never have taken a step in an event that was deserved.
- Have been detained or arrested for no valid reason.
- They have been victims of bullying only because of their race.
- They have been denied service solely because of their skin color.
- Have had to teach their children how not to be killed by the police.
Any fingers that are left are an indication of privilege. Allison was left with nine, but contraction had none. In addition to this powerful video, tWitch is the use of its platform to speak out against police brutality, standing with the Black of the Life of the Subject, and mourning the death of George Floyd.
“Now is not the time to argue ‘All Lives Matter”. It’s just not,” tWitch he explained on Instagram. “It sucks that I have to explain at this time, but Black lives are being hunted, and the systematic oppression. In the scope of humanity, of course, all lives matter absolutely, but we are talking about the lives that are threatened and in danger now. So please, Black Lives Matter.”
