See Prince Harry’s Speech at the 2020 Target Awards

Prince Harry is the constant support of a cause near and dear to your heart. On Wednesday, the Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance during the virtual Target Awards to honor the recipients of their work on issues related to race and injustice. The Diana Award charity it was created in the memory of the late Princess Diana, and has as its objective “to develop and inspire a positive change in the lives of young people.” The thing that made this year the most special event, however, was that it fell on what would have been Diana, 59 years of age.

“I am incredibly proud to be part of these awards, as they honor the legacy of my mother and bring out the best in people like you,” Harry began. “I know that my mother has been an inspiration to many of you, and I can assure you that she would have been fighting in the corner of your home. Like many of you, she never took the easy path or the popular or comfortable, but it stood for something, and she stood up for the people who needed it.”

“I’m confident about the future of the world and your ability to heal, because it is in their hands.”

Harry played in the riots that occur in the world, and offered some words of hope to the winners of the prize. “Right now, we are seeing situations around the world where the division, isolation, and anger are dominating as the pain and trauma of coming to the surface,” he said. “But I see the greatest hope in people like you, and I’m sure about the future of the world and your ability to heal, because it is in their hands.”

The prince also stressed the importance of the struggle against racial injustice, and promised to address the institutional racism. “Institutional racism has no place in our societies, however, it is still endemic. Unconscious bias must be acknowledged without blaming to create a better world for all of you,” he continued. “We are committed to be part of the solution and be part of the change that all are leaders. Now is the time, and we know that can do that.” Follow the prize-giving ceremony earlier, and the capture of Harry’s speech at the 57:05 mark.
