Stargirl it is the last CW superhero series, and is full of familiar faces. Brec Bassinger and Amy Smart star as Courtney and Barbara Whitmore, respectively, but the most recognized of the face is Luke Wilson. For the majority of Wilson’s career, he has been known as the goofy boyfriend or the mild-mannered love interest, however, in Stargirlhe’s finally made the leap to hot daddy like Stargirl step-dad, Pat Dugan.
In the first episode of the series, we can get an idea of what Pat’s life was like before he married Courtney family. For those not familiar with the DC comic, Pat initially began as the sidekick “Stripesy” to the teen-superhero Star-Spangled Kid. Finally, Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale), also known as the Star-Spangled Kid, received the cosmic staff and became a member of the Justice Society of America called Starman. The Justice Society of America (forerunner of the Justice League) is finally destroyed by the Injustice Society of America, led by the supervillain Icicle, and Starman leaves his cosmic staff to Pat in order for him to find a worthy person to take on the mantle.
This brings us to Pat’s life as a step-father of Courtney, who is less than thrilled in the movement of Blue Valley, Nebraska to Los Angeles. However, it is here that she discovers that he has been harboring the secret of Starman and Stripesy, as well as the cosmic staff. The cosmic staff, then decides to become the new Starman, which changes to Stargirl. As the series progresses, the pair grow closer, with Courtney choosing Pat to be her partner (with an update from the name Stripesy to S. T. R. I. P. E. since he is an adult). At the end of the day, Pat just wants to keep those he loves safe and to help end the team that destroyed their friends.
Wilson has been in the business since the mid – ’90s with his debut in Wes Anderson Bottle Rocket. Not only is he, too, Owen Wilson, the younger brother, but he is a member of Hollywood’s frat pack, which was made famous by the members of Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn with his comedies in the decade of 2000. Wilson’s long career has been found both in comic and dramatic roles, making it the perfect choice for Pat who is comedically charming and a little worried. As a reminder, you can check out some of Wilson’s best roles, including Legally Blonde and The Royal Tenenbaumsin the gallery below.
